Phil Carpenter is a reporter at Global News in Montreal, reporting on a range of issues primarily of interest and importance to Montrealers and Quebecers.
He joined he staff at Global in 2017 after working for more than 20 years as a photojournalist,13 years of which was on staff at the Montreal Gazette.
His work has taken him across the globe covering stories such as peace initiatives in Israel and parts of Africa, the war in the former Yugoslavia, post genocide Rwanda, elections and the earthquake in Haiti and Barack Obama’s first inauguration as President.
In 2009 he spent a month in Rwanda teaching multimedia journalism as part of a programme to train working journalists in that country.
Phil is also the author of Breast Stories, a book which explores issues of femininity and female identity through the profiles of more than 50 women from across Canada, who have had mastectomy.
He taught for more than a decade at the School of Journalism at Concordia University.
Phil continues to work as a documentary photographer and gives photography workshops for photo enthusiasts and journalists alike.
